About Us
Guidelines
Express Scripts has long recognized that our company, employees and clients can play an important role in enhancing the quality of life in communities in which we reside and do business. This belief has guided our charitable giving for many years.
We provide financial and volunteer support for numerous causes. For example, we consider requests from organizations that advance medical- and health-related causes, particularly those intended to support youth and strengthen families. We fund educational activities that enrich education and help create tomorrow's leaders. We consider programs designed to provide support that enables at-risk children to complete their educations.
Express Scripts will consider requests from organizations that fall outside the established criteria if they enhance the communities in which the company operates and make strong appeals for community support.
Criteria
The following criteria are used to evaluate potential projects for charitable giving:
- Contributions are generally restricted to organizations that have been granted 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
- Organizations and programs must have broad community support and a record of fiscal and administrative stability.
- Preference is given to innovative projects that develop or expand services, or improve the quality of an organization’s program.
- Typically, support will be awarded only for a term of one year; organizations must reapply for any subsequent year in which they are seeking funding.
Special consideration is given for the following types of organizations:
- Organizations that are known as thought leaders
- Organizations that offer volunteer opportunities for Express Scripts employees as an element of their program and in which Express Scripts employees participate
- Organizations that encourage diagnosis of specific diseases and patient compliance with prescription medications through public education
- Organizations that encourage preventive care
- Organizations that provide support to children and families who are coping with medical conditions
- Organizations that support education
- Organizations that support at-risk children in completing their educations
Programs must be able to show a plan for continuation and sustainability beyond the initial donation.
